Women's Auxiliary Service

We like Vera Lynn

Drink the best tea

(despite the powdered milk)

Draw lines down our legs

But save the nylons for the dance.

Flirt with the GI’s at work

Able to type with the best.

Receive the phone call telling us

Another pilot’s drowned.

Make the ration last a week.

Drive the cars for generals

Make pleasant chit chat by the way

Ignore the dismembered arms

That lie along the side of the road.

Make the best of foul tasting tea

We like Vera Lynn.
