I am an English Literature student in my final year at Sheffield University. After spending a semester on exchange in France, I developed an interest in languages and linguistics. This inspired me to use the software at http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr to play a multi-lingual game of Chinese whispers. Because the translation software is imperfect, the sense of a sentence alters each time it is translated.

'Babelfish Experiment 2' puts a sentence through 22 transformations, tracing the languages in order of geographic location (East to West), beginning with those most graphologically dissimilar from English.
