Issue #13

Dios es Julia is taken from a set of songs called Light the match , which follows the story of a conflicted soldier, Sebastian, and a local woman, Julia, from a small war torn town. The story follows their internal struggles and documents their chance meeting, leading Sebastian to desert and elope with Julia, and eventually face the consequences of his actions.

For a solitary female voice, with a slow rhythm and mostly in a minor key.

Dios es Julia

Like a plaster trying to cover up a bullet hole
Like a pat on the shoulder trying to fix a broken soul
There’s no mending what she’s missing
No pretending, she’s stopped wishing
No way out of this hellish burial ground

[Chorus]
Lord, it’s Julia
Are you listening, are you watching?
Do you see the state my fragile head is in?
My faith is shaking, world is breaking
Are you watching, are you watching?
I can only live for so long on adrenaline

Like a letter after earthquakes rip the world apart
Like a warning not to begin after she already starts
Self destruction doesn’t help her
But the crying overwhelms her
When every spark of light has been drowned

[Chorus]
Lord, it’s Julia
Are you listening, are you watching?
Do you see the state my fragile head is in?
My faith is shaking, world is breaking
Are you watching, are you watching?
I can only live for so long on adrenaline

Like a ray of hope that can’t break through the clouds
One more happy thought is brutally shot down
She wants to leave, to get away
But instead she’s forced to stay
Trapped inside the place she once called home

[Bridge]
Lord, it’s Julia
I can’t help but feel ignored
Do you see me?
Can you hear me?
What do I have to do?
Please tell me what to do

[Chorus]
Lord, it’s Julia
Are you listening, are you watching?
Do you see the state my fragile head is in?
My faith is shaking, world is breaking
Are you watching, are you watching?
I can only live for so long on adrenaline

Lord, it’s Julia
Are you listening, are you watching?
I’m thinking I might have to pack it in
My faith is shaking, while I’m still waiting
I’m debating, contemplating
But I’m failing, life is draining
Are you listening, are you listening?
I can only live for so long on adrenaline
