Franciscan Moment

‘et exaltávit húmiles’
sounds from the car radio
as the slow procession
of red lights passes through
the black tree-arch
into the damp blueness
of a mizzle-cloaked evening
a brown figure squats
on his pack beside
the concrete bus stop
cowled head bent
fingering his beads
