Beliş Church

beneath wintry words

reeds                  spears blocking speech

not flowing  but frozen

ice banks line the shore

fishing boats tied,

utter your charms

above holy place

its stained glass

oil under feet

fishermen’s waterholes

choir chants bubbles from below

membrane trembles with each word

gothic windows join arches

hymns paddle against the walls

as the water level rises

church churn chirp

wings       cried angels on the walls

half-smiling
