Orange and Gold
Lamps glittered across the hills, as though the stars had fallen from the sky. They sparkled in swirls across the darkness, golden fireworks frozen in their moment of glory. It was like a sea of constellations - so beautiful. I nearly cried.
Lamplight filtered through the trees, like sunlight through stained glass. Wind rustled the leaves, making shadows tumble across the ground like fragments of thought. The stone walls and streets became a sculpture in gilt mahogany. Papery orange shapes whirled through the air, woven from flame. Darkness and light danced across the paths in ever-changing patterns, touching a world clothed in velvet silence.
Night time is composed of luminous clouds and stark silhouettes. Caught for a moment in headlights, you slip back into the darkness; one more shadow leaving footprints on the leaves, dancing through falling gold.

Note on the text by the author
‘Orange and Gold’ was written in an attempt to capture the experience of a night-time walk through the Endcliffe Area. I suppose it’s more emotive/pictoral than documentary non-fiction, but it is the record of an actual event. Like a painting, it is a snapshot of a particular place at a particular time.
